AN AFTERNOON IN BINONDO WITH JAY ALONZO

51 accidental tourists joined the Alcove's An Afternoon In Binondo/Chinatown with Jay Alonzo yesterday, August 23, 2008. A photo opportunity trip in Manila's Chinatown area organized by the Alcove Gallery. The street shoot trip started off at the Filipinas Heritage Library with an orientation and house rules announcements by Cecille Cruz of the Ayala Foundation followed by shooting pointers and tips and folio presentation by Jay Alonzo.
It's no easy task to pull together and manage 47 participants. From the photo opportunity come food tasting at Po Heng (for the fresh 'lumpia' or spring roll), Dao Bai (steamed and fried kutchay dumplings that reminded me of my breakfast in Shenzhen and Beijing) and Masuki (noodles of the Ma Mon Luk fame); to the exploration of Seng Guan temple and Ongpin and its adjoining streets; everyone can't seem to get enough of one spot to photograph. The last time Alcove conducted a photo trip was more than a year ago at the island of Corregidor. Before that was in Bolinao, Pangasinan, four years ago. As a culminating activity for this event, the Alcove will be staging an exhibit of the participants' work at the Filipinas Heritage Library next month.
WESTERN DIGITAL LAUNCHES MY PASSPORT

|
Manila - July 17, 2008 - Western Digital launched its line of My Passport hard drives at the Tropezz in Makati and had photographer and instructor Jay Alonzo speak in their behalf why WD is his product of choice in data storage and back ups. In attendance were invited guests from the local photography industry such as John Chua and Nino Carandang of Digital Photographer Philippines.
Alonzo uses WD hard disks solely for his photography and swears by the product's speed, reliability and capacity, things he require the most for his line of work.
"As a photographer, I need a way to store my photos and at the same time be able to retrieve them fast anytime. DVDs are the cheapest way to do it but quite cumbersome when retrieving data. My WD drives, through the use of asset management software, allow me to search and get a needed photo in an instant, aside from providing a way to archive my images. As such, my hard disks should possess speed and reliability and the capacity to keep large volumes of my work in one place," the lensman testified. |
